Those who held the position of minister, minister, deputy minister or deputy minister of the Ministry of the Environment, they demanded the President Pedro Castillo the appointment of qualified people at the head of this sector. They indicated that they must have proven experience in environmental issues and public management, in addition to being irreproachable people both in legal terms and ethical.
In a pronouncement signed, among others, by Ricardo Giesecke, Manuel Pulgar Vidal, Fabiola Muñoz, José de Echave, Gabriel Quijandría and Hugo Cavieses, the former officials point out that the request responds to the need to ensure an effective State response to environmental emergencies, as well as to structural challenges such as reducing our vulnerability to climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.

Hence, they consider that the head of the Ministry of the Environment must have an adequate profile to lead the environmental agenda, harness the momentum of international trends and speed up ambitious decisions that bring the country up to the challenges existing.
They mention that, as people who were at the head of this ministry, they consider it unacceptable that this sector becomes a space of taking over by the power of the day, which “weakens the institutionality, undermines the morale and the commitment of the servers, and undermines the possibility of formulating and executing public policies that are coherent and sustainable over time”.
Faced with this, they demand that decisions be made that allow them to recover their recognized independence and technical solidity, their alignment with the best meritocratic practices and its presence at a national and international level.
