Nicaraguan dictatorship orders to cancel legal status of Expica and nine other organizations

The regime of Daniel Ortega, through the Ministry of the Interior, included this Friday the Association for Agricultural Development of Nicaragua (explains), in a new list of 10 Non-Governmental Organizations, whose legal status will be canceled by the pro-government deputies of the National Assembly.

The proposal of the Ortega deputy Filiberto Rodríguez, vice president of the Peace, Defense, Government and Human Rights Commission, establishes that the goods and assets that belong to said illegalized organizations will have, after liquidation, the destination foreseen in the constitutive act or in its statute .

The Legislative Decree initiative presented before the president of the National Assembly, Gustavo Porras, indicates that these organizations have failed to comply with their duties and obligations established in the legislation that regulates them as non-profit organizations.

In the case of Expica, the directors had recently reported that between July 21 and 31 they would start the annual fair, in which they planned to have the presence of several exhibitors and the exhibition of some 600 cattle.

More than a thousand organizations canceled

After executing the new cancellation of legal status, the Nicaraguan regime would raise the number of illegal NGOs to more than a thousand in the last three and a half years. Only so far in 2022, Ortega has executed more than 900 civil society organizations. NGOs have been accused of violating Law 1040, the Foreign Agents Regulation Law; and Law 977, Law Against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
