Nicaragua and China sign an agreement to boost investment, tourism and culture

Nicaragua and China signed a memorandum of understanding this Thursday in order to encourage investment, trade, and boost sectors with common interests such as tourism, culture, entrepreneurship, innovation, creative economy, among others.

The memorandum was signed at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Managua, by the general coordinator of the National Commission for Creative Economy of Nicaragua, Camila Ortega Murillo, and the director of the Beijing China-Latin America Cultural Exchange Center (Cicclab), Wang Lichao.

Ortega Murillo is one of the eight children of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo.

The daughter of the Nicaraguan dignitaries said at the ceremony, according to the Sandinista radio station La Primerísima, that after the signing of this understanding agreement both parties will be defining areas of collaboration to develop joint programs that encourage investment, trade, and the exchange.

Also, that they stimulate sectors with similar interests such as tourism, culture, entrepreneurship, innovation, creative economy, among others, he added.

“Our country is advancing in the identification of opportunities to strengthen and consolidate cooperation,” said Ortega Murillo, who stressed that Nicaragua closes 2022 “expanding our strategic alliances.”

He also thanked the director of Cicclab “for the opportunity to exchange between the two sister countries, to be able to project and publicize all the cultures, traditions and identity, and in this way learn about the culture and traditions of the Chinese people in Nicaragua.”

Also present at the signing was Humberto González, Secretary of the Creative and Orange Economy of the Presidency of the Republic of the Central American country.

Nicaragua reestablished diplomatic relations with China in December 2021, after 31 years of maintaining them with Taiwan, which the Asian giant considers a rebellious island.
