Change of precautionary measure denied for 8 people involved in migrant smuggling

The change in the precautionary measure imposed on 8 people for the crime of smuggling of migrants, which occurred on December 1, 2022, in Alto Limón, township of La Playa, district of Pinogana, was denied by the Guarantee Court, after The Darién Regional Prosecutor’s Office will be able to prove the procedural risks.

During the hearing, the prosecutor of the First Investigation Section, Yilenia Marín, emphasized before the Guarantee Court that none of the procedural risks have changed and that the danger of flight prevails since all the defendants are Colombian nationals.

The Judge of Guarantees, Luis Mitré, admitted the request made by the Public Ministry and denied the change in precautionary measure, considering that none of the circumstances established by the defense change or reduce the risks that persist in the investigation.

These 8 people were arrested after an operation that dismantled a group dedicated to the Smuggling of migrants.
