Next week the delivery of milk, biscuits and nutritional cream begins in schools

More than 400,000 public school students will begin to receive the cookie, milk and nutritional cream starting next week, this after the endorsement of the Comptroller General of the Republic of the contract for the acquisition of these foods, which will also be distributed in the 300 corregimientos contemplated in the Beehive Plan, a program advanced by the National Government.

Jaime López, director of Nutrition and School Health of the Ministry of Education (Meduca), explained that the food will be delivered until December, when the 2022 school year ends, and from the first day of classes in 2023.

He assured that the Ministry of Education will guarantee the delivery of these products to students, “so that they have access to a daily light snack as a complement to their family diet, resulting in better performance in the teaching-learning process.”

In addition to the school feeding plan, which is developed in primary schools of the 16 educational regions of the country, in 196 educational centers, in support of 40,000 schoolchildren, the Study Without Hunger program is developed, which entails a complete diet with products and fruits of each region.

López stressed that school gardens also complement the nutritional status of students, in addition to raising animals such as laying hens and broilers.

The Meduca, from the Department of School Nutrition and Health, emphasizes the promotion of healthy lifestyles in each of the country’s schools, so that students can enjoy adequate nutrition and the health necessary for development of their school skills.
