The White House confirmed Thursday that more classified documents from when Joe Biden was Obama’s vice president were found. They were in the garage of his home in Wilmington, Delaware.
When asked about the discovery Thursday morning, Biden said: “I will have a chance to talk about all of this, God willing, soon. My Corvette is in a closed garage. So, it’s not like they’re in the middle of the street.”
“People know that I take documents and classified material seriously. Also that we are fully and completely cooperating with the Department of Justice. As part of that process, my lawyers reviewed other places where documents from my time as vice president were stored and finished that review last night,” he stressed. “They discovered a small number of classified branded documents in storage areas and filing cabinets in my home and personal library.”
“The Department of Justice was immediately notified and the attorneys made arrangements for me to take possession of the documents,” he concluded.
“Following the discovery of government documents at the Penn Biden Center in November 2022, and in close coordination with the Department of Justice, the president’s attorneys have searched the president’s residences in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the other locations where Find Files Lawyers completed that review last night,” Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president, said in a statement.
“During the review, attorneys discovered among personal and political documents a small number of additional Obama-Biden administration records bearing classified marks. All but one of these documents were found in storage space in the garage of the president’s residence in Wilmington,” she said.
The revelation that the classified documents were kept in Biden’s personal office in Washington, and now at his private residence in Wilmington, has raised questions about how Biden’s situation compares to classified documents seized from the home of former President Donald Trump. in Mar-a-Lago.
Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday appointed Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate the discovery of classified documents that were possibly mishandled following President Biden’s tenure as vice president.
“The extraordinary circumstances here require the appointment of special counsel for this matter,” Garland said.
“This appointment underscores for the public the Department’s commitment to independence and accountability in particularly sensitive matters.”
