The Dr. Luis “Chicho” Fábrega hospital in the province of Veraguas has had a neurosurgery service since 2020, which had an investment of 1.7 million balboas.

Currently, more than 300 surgeries have been performed, benefiting patients from Veraguense, the central provinces and the Ngäbe-Buglé region.

The modern neurosurgery service has a hybrid microscope with robotic visualization system, ultrasonic tissue aspirator, neurosurgery surgical instrument tray, tray with clips for aneurysm ligation, high-velocity surgical drill system, vascular doppler with transcranial and vascular monitoring option peripheral, ultrasound equipment for intraoperative use with applications with advanced applications.

The delivery of the surgical table for microsurgery and advanced surgery procedures, and the supply of the ultra-fragmentation cutter, is expected.

Alvino De León, neurosurgeon, indicated that cervical spine surgeries, cervical, thoracic, lumbar tumors, intradural tumors, pain procedures (radiofrequency nucleoplasties), trauma surgery, brain surgeries (vascular, gliomas and metastases) have been performed. , biopsy, pituitary approaches, endoscopic approaches, cranioplasty, abscesses among others.

The doctor highlighted that there are future projects such as: brain navigation, spinal robot, intrabeam, convivo, intraoperative monitoring, three-dimensional C-arm and intraoperative magnetic resonance, which allows expanding services and positively impacting the lives of thousands of people.
