The technical teams of the Ministry of Transport of the Nation and the City of Buenos Aires met this Wednesday to advance with the transfer of 32 lines of collective that circulate through the city.
During the meeting, the teams discussed the legal, technical and economic aspects related to the transfer of lines of collectiveand with which the national government seeks a more equitable and federal distribution of resources to the public transport.
The meeting that took place this Wednesday is part of the process that began in February 2021 for the transfer of the lines of collective. This way, the national government hopes that there will be a definitive agreement with the City before the end of April.
In the event that the negotiation is completed, the City would have complete autonomy since it currently has the police and the subway and Premetro transport network under its jurisdiction.
In this way, what the Government is looking for is for the City to take over the financing of the 32 lines of collective that circulate within CABA, since the Nation intends to cut 14,600 million pesos in subsidies that are currently allocated to these transportation lines.
However, the Government of Buenos Aires considers that this decision is one more “attack” against the City, so the dispute adds to the controversy over the co-participation funds, which ended up in the Supreme Court and for which there was recently a ruling in favor of CABA.
Meanwhile, from the Buenos Aires Transportation portfolio, they confirmed that “They are working with the Nation in an institutional framework for tariff and operational coordination.” However, they stressed that the issue “is complex and has many variables” and that for now “the dialogue between the technical teams is advancing.”
