NATO chief says war in Ukraine could "last for months, even years"

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not give up seizing the whole of Ukraine and the war could last “months, even years,” NATO’s secretary general warned on Wednesday.

“We have to be realistic. The war can last a long time, several months, even years. That is why we also have to be prepared for a long haul, both in terms of supporting Ukraine, maintaining sanctions and strengthening our defenses,” said Jens Stoltenberg, before the start of a meeting of foreign ministers of the Atlantic Alliance.

“We do not see any indication that Putin would have changed his goal of controlling the whole of Ukraine,” he stressed.

A G7 meeting is planned at NATO headquarters on the sidelines of the meeting of the Alliance of the head of Japanese diplomacy Yoshimasa Hayashi. The strengthening of the sanctions imposed on Russia will be the main topic of the meeting.
