National Party will continue seeking to repeal the Media Law through Accountability

The Accountability project, which was under treatment for 45 days in the Chamber of Deputies, enters the Senate this Monday, to be discussed, analyzed and voted on for the same period of time. One of the nationalist senators who will receive the document is Gustavo Penadés

The legislator, as reported by Telemundo, stated that “there is not much room for reallocation for this initiative that increases spending by US$226 million. He also criticized the objections of the opposition that the project does not meet or respond to the needs of the population.

“That is not like that. Not so much so that the Broad Front forgets to recognize that a salary agreement was reached with Cofe (public union) and with teachers, something that in their governments generally did not materialize. In terms of salaries and investments, more is always required, but the effort is unquestionable”, expressed Penadés.

On another topic, in relation to the media law, the senator said that “the media law, the goal of the National Party is to repeal it. Some progress was made in the lower house by repealing article 56, which puts all cable operators on an equal footing for internet data transmission, but we are not going to stop in our effort to repeal the entire law or the largest number of items you can.”

In relation to the solidarity fund of the University of the Republic, he said that «Unfortunately, since the Deputies voted against the initiative of the Executive, to re-introduce it in the Senate, the initiative of the Executive Power is needed. Unfortunately, I believe that this issue will not be able to be discussed in the Chamber of Senators unless the Executive considers sending a complementary message, something that I have no news that could happen today, “said Penadés about the constitutional restriction.
