During this day, the municipality of Coronel confirmed the discovery of at least 60 drums with accelerating liquid that were found on the Montahue hill in the Biobío region.
Police, PDI and the Army went to the place thanks to an anonymous complaint, and there they are carrying out expert reports to determine if it is fuel, detergent or gel alcohol.
The mayor of the commune, Boris Chamorro, also attended the site of the events, who reportedly declared a couple of hours ago that the forest fires that devastated the area were “absolutely intentional.”
Regarding the discovery of the bottles, the mayor pointed out that “by virtue of a call received by our headquarters, we immediately arranged emergency and civil protection teams; who appeared on the Montahue hill, discovering these about 60 drums with some type of accelerator. I want to be very cautious, we are going to wait for the investigation of this fact. We already filed a complaint.”
For her part, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, pointed out that “for now this is a suspicious object. 60 drums with a liquid of unknown content are found in the surroundings of the fire. This is the subject of suspicion, alert, will be investigated. The investigation will tell us what it is.”
He also added that “we know that there is intentionality, and we know that there is certain science that 99.8% of fires are caused by some human factor involved.” However, the authority also called for not focusing on it, but rather on containing the fires that affect the south-central area of our country.
