In the early hours of this Monday, a tragic and multiple accident occurred in the Pan Americanwhere a 25-year-old girl lost her life, despite having been transferred to a hospital for assistance.
In the sinister road on the highway at least five vehicles were involved, which caused complications in mobility, since several lanes of the Pan American they remain closed.
The incident occurred at kilometer 18 of the Pan American, in a northerly direction, near the Buenos Aires town of Martínez. The accident originated when the driver of a Ford Fiesta had to stop driving in the left lane because a tire burst.
According to what the driver of the vehicle, Néstor Casanova, said, after suffering a puncture, he put up beacons and got out to place the corresponding signage. However, after a few minutes, another car hit him. This was driven by a young man who tested positive for breathalyzer.
“I put the beacons, the triangles and with the cell phone flashlight I warned the other cars. All the cars avoided me, but the one with the white Fiat Cronos car came up on me and hit me. When I told him what he had done, if I was waving, I realized that he was stammering,” Casanova told the press.
As a result of the first crash, three more vehicles collided, including a black Chevrolet Corsa, a Ford Mondeotro and another Fiat Cronos where a 25-year-old woman was traveling as a companion, who was the fatal victim.
The woman suffered several polytraumatisms due to the accident and although she received assistance on the spot and was transferred to the San Isidro hospital, the doctors could not save her.
The drunk driver was listed as the main defendant
Ariel Fernando Vega, 33, was the driver who hit the vehicle that was parked in the highway after suffering a puncture. Upon arriving at the site, the Police were able to verify that Vega was driving with 2.14 grams per liter of alcohol in his blood, more than triple what is allowed (0.5).
At the time of trying to perform the test, there were difficulties in doing so, since he could not support himself and could not blow the mouthpiece of the device. After testing positive for alcohol, the fact was classified by the investigators as manslaughter and Vega was identified as the main defendant.
