Mujeres por Mujeres, a network to help and support victims of violence

Santiagueñas who were in a situation of violence created Women for Women, an organization that from its headquarters in the city of Pinto expands its work to other locations in the province.

Aurora Álvarez is one of the women who started this group. He is 45 years old, born in a field about 50 kilometers from Pinto, in the Aguirre department, south of the Santiago del Estero province.

He told Télam his story of violence by his father and his partner, situations that he overcame, he went to live in Buenos Aires and returned to Santiago, where he bought a field that was usurped.

“I started talking to my friends and we set up a network to show solidarity with my situation and then we started to get together and talk about what we lived through and many of us suffered violence of different kinds,” she said.

In this way “we realized that it was necessary to say Never Again, to cut off with so much violence towards us and we formed the group Women for Women”.

Eliana, who is also part of the group, recalled that this need to unite arose when “women asked us for help on the phone and sent us terrifying photos; we hugged each other to cry, but this time the same fear made us run to his house ”.

“The need to create this space was born because the idea of ​​someone else going through the same thing terrifies us,” said Eliana.

“We were able to rent a headquarters in Pinto, with the help of a provincial deputy, where we have a community wardrobe, merchandise, we give support classes, health checks and we make benefits to collect and buy medicines,” he said.

They also have a whatsapp group “With girls not only from Pinto and its surroundings, but also from Ojo de Agua, Sumampa, Paso de Oscares, Los Telares, Añatuya and other rural areas.”

“We go out to visit, we work together, we meet constantly and we are alert if we meet or comment on someone who is going through situations of violence,” he added.

And she explained that “in a very sneaky way we try to make friends so that she alone has confidence in us and tells us when she is ready, because it is not easy.”

In addition to containment and support, women are trained, they seek legal tools to further advance in helping those who live in situations of gender violence.

“This type of action is very useful not only to us, but it is also a multiplier effect for other women,” said Eliana and underlined that in this way “we feel that we are going to be more every day and one day we will have achieved it to the generations to come ”.

Sarah Maldonado, from Selva, shared that Mujeres por Mujeres “has been very supportive, not only for me as a woman, but for my son who has a disability.”

“In this space we share talks, mates and much more, because we are all more than companions and we constantly support each other,” she said.
