The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) published a draft Regulation for Environmental Protection of the Communications Sector to speed up the deployment of antennas in rural areas.
According to the regulatory project (Ministerial Resolution No. 329-2022-MTC/01.03), it is based on the concern that the population has about the massification of antennas for the public mobile phone service and the impact (due to unfounded fear) on health. and the urban landscaping that it can generate.
In this regard, the Vice Minister of Communications, Virgilio Tito Chura, explained that the aim is to ensure that infrastructure projects and telecommunications services are developed while safeguarding the right of people to live in a healthy and adequate environment, through effective environmental management and protection. .

The official added that the regulation will provide infrastructure operators and providers with greater predictability in socio-environmental procedures.
It should be considered that in the 2018-2021 period, the operating companies submitted 950 projects to the MTC for preliminary environmental assessment, of which 406 were approved and classified, while 544 were observed and declared inadmissible or were subject to withdrawal in pre and post-pandemic, due to the lack of predictability and efficiency in environmental assessment procedures.
Along these lines, the general director of Policy and Regulation of the Vice Ministry of Communications, Marco Antonio Maldonado, invited citizens to review the draft standard and submit suggestions and comments, until May 13, at the MTC headquarters or via the mail [email protected].
