The Public Ministry requested the imposition of preventive detention against retired Vice Admiral Félix Alburquerque Comprés, accused of killing the communicator Manuel Taveras Duncan and to erase relevant evidence, by destroying and concealing the illegal weapon used to commit the act.
The instance addressed to the court by the prosecutor Vladimir Viloria, from the Department of Investigation of Crimes and Crimes against the Persons of the National District Prosecutor’s Officeestablishes that on August 19, at approximately 2:30 in the morning, a fight broke out between the accused Alburquerque Comprés, former president of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD), and the victim Taveras Duncan, which culminated in the death of the latter, at the hands of the accused due to a firearm projectile.
The crime occurred while the victim was in a fast food establishment located on Núñez Avenue Cáceres on the corner of Rómulo Betancourt, in the Los Cacicazgos sector of the National District, a fact that was captured in a video widely disseminated electronically.
The instance indicates that at a time when Taveras Duncan was attended by employees of the business, the accused arrived Alburquerque Comprés and dismounts from a Mercedes Benz vehicle, laughing, which is why the deceased thinks that the accused was laughing at him, a situation that It caused a discussion between them.
Viloria points out in the request to the extent that as a result of that situation a fight broke out in which they attacked each other, until a security guard from the plaza and a person accompanying the victim intervened.

Subsequently, Alburquerque Comprés went to his vehicle, for which the security and employees of the establishment suggested that Taveras Duncan leave the place, but this was not achieved, because immediately the defendant took a pistol from inside his vehicle and He began to fire multiple shots at the victim and his friend, failing to hit them at that moment because they ran away.
It details that Alburquerque Comprés boarded his vehicle again to chase them, while Taveras Duncan managed to hide behind a lottery bank, where he was found by his assailant, who immediately proceeded to dismount from his vehicle and shot him in the chest and immediately He ruthlessly falls to the pavement, he took the opportunity to fire another shot at him and left the scene of the crime, leaving the lifeless body of the communicator lying on the ground.
Taveras Ducan died from a firearm projectile wound in the right hemithorax and exit in the dorsal region, according to the record of removal of the body No. 65197, carried out by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif).
After committing the act, the accused got rid of the murder weapon used to kill Taveras Duncan, and in a criminal action proceeded to disappear said weapon, illegal, since it was not assigned to him by his military institution, says the Public Ministry .
Alburquerque was arrested by judicial order No. 0032-AGOSTO-2022, issued by the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District.
The Public Ministry has qualified the facts in the criminal types described in articles 295 and 304 of the Code Dominican Criminal, as well as articles 66 and 67 of Law 631-16, for the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials, which typify voluntary homicide caused with an illegal firearm.
The request of the Prosecutor’s Office establishes that the measure to be imposed in this case must be preventive detention by virtue of the fact that Alburquerque Comprés does not offer a guarantee to appear for the acts of the procedure and submit to them.
