Mothers of April show the victims of Ortega’s repression through a mural in Costa Rica

The Mothers of April Association (AMA) made a mural dedicated to the victims of the repression of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in the context of the repression of April 2018. The exhibition is located in the Nicaraguan Human Rights Collective Never Again in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The faces of those killed in the social protests by orders of the dictatorial couple were placed on the mural. The images are in two colors: blue and white, the colors of the Nicaraguan national flag, a symbol that united citizens to raise their voices and demand profound changes in the system.

«The objective of the mural with the faces of our children is to keep their memory alive. And continue to demand from the State of Nicaragua that there be truth, justice and guarantees of non-repetition. Until we get justice we will not rest. We mothers have not rested to keep the memory alive and the demand for justice will not cease,” he told Article 66 Susana López, mother of Gerald Vásquez, one of the two young men killed in the attack on Divina Misericordia in Managua.

«There are more than 100 (faces of) people incorporated in the mural and that represent the historical memory of human rights violations in Nicaragua from 2018. From the Collective we stand in solidarity with all the victims and accompany them in their pain, in their mourning and in their justice process because in the processes of historical memory it is important that these processes of justice, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition are rescued, “he told this media outlet.

“From AMA we want to thank each and all the collaborators who, from shared feelings, supported the different stages of this work with which we honor the memory of our murdered relatives and children,” AMA wrote on its Twitter account.
