A national woman Haitian abandoned her six-year-old son in the Arturo Grullón Regional University Children’s Hospital, of Santiago, according to the authorities of the center. The infant has been hospitalized for ten days.
The director of the center, Mirna López, said that she has been trying to communicate with the mother for about five days, and has not responded.
He stated that they have tried to communicate with the lady through a telephone number, which she left when she went to the pediatric hospital.
“We declare the child in the abandonment line because his mother, although he has come to the center, does not stay with him,” said the head of the hospital.
The minor was admitted to the Arturo Grullón with a fracture in his left arm, which he allegedly suffered when he fell from a tree. His admission to the hospital center occurred on July 12.
Since his hospitalization, the infant has been cared for by the staff of the Social Work department, as well as by the Jesus with the Children Volunteer. Both organizations provide him with clothing, food and expenses for the surgical process to which he was subjected.
Mirna López warned that if the mother or a relative does not show up, in the next few hours they will begin the process to deliver the little boy to the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani).
