Many of the border crossings between Argentina and Chile are closed due to snowfall, including the Cristo Redentor and Pehuenche (Mendoza) international accesses. A large number of trucks are stranded waiting for weather conditions to improve to cross into the neighboring country.
Of the 71 border crossings between Argentina and Chile, only 12 are enabled, according to official information.
Mendoza is one of the areas most affected by the heavy snowfall and the Cristo Redentor Pass has been closed for a week and the situation could only return to normal between Monday and Tuesday, if conditions improve over the weekend.
Similarly, the Pehuenche Pass that connects the Mendoza city of Malargüe with the Chilean city of Talca is also closed due to heavy snowfall and a large accumulation of snow on the road.
The entire Mendoza mountain range area is under an orange alert due to snowfall, as reported by the National Meteorological Service (SNM), which also issued warnings for the same reason for San Juan, Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, La Rioja and San Luis.
Faced with adverse weather conditions, the border crossings between Argentina and Chile that are enabled in the northern region are Paso Las Llaretas (Catamarca) and Paso Sico (Salta)
In the southern region, in the province of Rio Negro, the Pérez Rosales and Río Manso passes are open, while in Chubut you can cross through the Rio Puelo, Rio Encuentro, Las Pampas, Rio Frias and Futaleufú passes.
Finally, in San Cruz, the border crossings of Río Don Guillermo, Monte Dinero and Austral Integration are enabled.
