In less than 20 days, irregular migration across the Darién border reflects a displacement of more than 12,000 migrants, as revealed in an interview with Radio Panama by the deputy director of the National Migration Service, Maria Isabel Zaravia, indicating that there is a increase in nationalities such as Ecuadorians, Haitians and Colombians.

He stressed that for this year the migratory flow is not expected to decrease and Panama will not escape this reality, only for 2022 a displacement of 248,284 people was reported, of more than 50 nationalities headed by Venezuelans, and this figure is expected to increase in 2023.

The deputy director of Migration highlighted that the dynamics of the flow is already denoting changes to the two previous years; but the situation of these onlookers is the same, those who arrive want to continue their journey to the north of the continent (United States).

He also referred to the transfers on humanitarian flights that have been made, only this year one was already paid for by the Panamanian State where 177 migrants among women, children and adolescents returned voluntarily to Venezuela.
