Santiago.- The Metropolitan Archbishop of this Archdiocese, Monsignor Freddy Antonio de Jesús Bretón Martínez, today expressed concern about the “cracking” of Dominican societyfor which he called for the unity of all sectors to face the evils that overwhelm the country.
“A society alone breaks apart and falls apart, which requires the will of all sectors”affirmed the also president of the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate
“The sense of communion, of unity and harmony as mandated by these dates of Corpus Christi, I believe that it would be the greatest lesson for this society that, as you can see, has been breaking down, because every day there is an assault, a death, that domestic conjugal violence. What does that mean, that the human condition and respect for the dignity of others have been undermined, ”said the prelate.
Corpus Christi: why is it celebrated today?
Monsignor Bretón Martínez spoke at the head of the procession for the Corpus Christi festivity that left the 30 de Marzo street cemetery to the Santiago Apóstol cathedral, where he expressed that like the scattered grains that come together to form a loaf, society has to unify to be able to serve for something, otherwise you will not be able to live.
The mass was attended by the provincial governor Rosa Satos and the director of the Cibao Central Command of the National Police, Brigadier General Claudio González Moquete, among others.

He stated that the call for the unity of all sectors begins with the authorities, but that it requires families to raise children and educate in schools.
“Despite the differences in religious and political creeds; harmonize in society would be the great lesson of this day”, he indicated. He said that the Eucharist is a ministry of faith and is understood by those who believe, but it has an extraordinary symbolism.
Catholics celebrate Corpus Christi Day with masses and processions
