the monsignor charles castle greeted that the President of the Republic, peter castlehas expressed interest in talking with Pedro Barreto at the Government Palace, but highlighted the need for this to be done through a formal channel.
“If the president wants to dialogue, there is every willingness to be able to dialogue. The point is that you have to do it formally. It’s not enough that I say it from the balcony when you come. It’s fine to say it, but it has to be formalized.” stated on RPP.
The representative of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference pointed out that they have not received any formal invitation and recalled that the last time Barreto spoke with Pedro Castillo, there were commitments that were not respected by the president.
“The previous case was quite serious because if one thing was said and then another was done, it is not convenient for it to happen to a statesman”held.
Monsignor Carlos Castillo recalled the statement issued by the Peruvian Episcopal Conference calling for solutions to the need for a “political transition.”
“The word transition should be understood as an open transition. There are several possibilities that civil society has to think about but obviously it is important that there is a reconstitution of the tragic forms in which we are now, where there is a lot of disorder, a lot of disorientation and we have to know how to agree on a new alternative”he exhorted.
