Monsignor Báez recalls April Fools’ Day: “Today’s tyrants impose themselves by killing”

Monsignor Silvio Baez, Auxiliary Bishop of Managua, recalled the Day of the Innocents, which is commemorated every December 28, the date on which the massacre of children under two years of age occurred in Bethlehem, ordered by King Herod.

That date, in biblical history, was marked by Herod’s hatred against Jesus of Nazareth, whom he was looking for to kill him, after his birth, which according to the Christian religion was December 25.

Alluding to that event, Báez recalled that «Herod became terribly enraged and sent to kill all the children of Bethlehem. Ambitious and thirsty for power, he is afraid and orders to kill ».

Referring to the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, accused of crimes against humanity against Nicaraguans, the prelate compared Herod’s actions with those of “today’s tyrants who impose themselves by repressing, imprisoning or killing.”

To his publication, Báez added a photo where agents of the Special Operations Directorate (DOEP) of the Ortega Police attacked a young opposition member in one of the protests in 2019.

“Sad reality is updated”

Father Edwing Román, ex-parish priest of the San Miguel Arcángel church in Masaya, also recalled that tragic date and related it to the violence unleashed by the Nicaraguan dictatorship.

«“Herod (…) ordered to kill all the children two years old and under, in Bethlehem and its surroundings”. Matt 2.16. Sad reality that is updated in the bloody massacres committed by those who cling to power, in migrant children, and in innocent children who do not let them be born.

In the midst of the social protests against the Daniel Ortega regime, a group of unknown persons set fire to the three-story house located in the Carlos Marx neighborhood, in Managua. Inside were the six people, who later became fatalities.

Witnesses and relatives denounced at that moment that those responsible were armed parastatal agents and police officers at the service of the Sandinista government.

The event was reported internationally. Two burned children and four more adults was the scene that was repeated. Until today, the Nicaraguan justice has not clarified the crime that brought the entire country to mourning.

In addition to this crime, the Ortega dictatorship is accused of murdering more than 300 citizens in the social protests four years ago, where the boy Teyler Lorío, 14 months old, was also murdered, victim of an Aka rifle shot. in his head, on June 23, 2018. The crime continues in impunity.
