Monitoring and surveillance continues due to the passage of Julia and its impact on Panama

Tropical storm Julia in its path through the Caribbean, will make its effects felt throughout the country. According to the ETESA Hydrometeorology specialists, it will be a crucial day with significant effects.

On the instructions of President Laurentino Cortizo, a follow-up meeting was held with the ministers of the Government, Janaina Tewaney; of Security, Juan Manuel Pino; The Vice Minister of Social Development, Milagros Ramos, together with the governors of the entire country, coordinated the immediate actions to be carried out in all the areas declared with green and yellow alerts, in order to safeguard the population.

According to ETESA Hydrometeorology, the areas under warning from 10:00 am to noon today, Saturday are: Veraguas (south, center and north), Colón, Herrera, Los Santos. Later, Panama East, Bayano, Chimán, Chepo and surroundings, Bocas del Toro, Ngäbe Buglé, Chiriquí, southeastern Darién and the Gulf of Panama are also forecast to experience increased rainfall.

Likewise, extreme vigilance is recommended throughout the Panamanian Pacific, since from approximately 1:00 pm the confluence of strong winds from the north and south will cause intense rains with electrical activity.

During the follow-up meeting on the situation of tropical storm Julia in our country, in a preventive manner, the specialists indicated that the soils are saturated throughout the national territory due to the September rains, and winds between 40 and 50 km per hour and that precautionary maritime conditions are maintained on both sides.

During this rainy season, the population is asked to follow the necessary prevention measures and stay informed through the official accounts of SINAPROC and in case of emergency call 911 or 520-4429.

In this meeting that took place at the National Emergency Operations Center (COE), all the governors of the Republic, the deputy director of SINAPROC, Adherbal de La Rosa and the work team of different entities of the National Government participated via zoom. .
