Moderna returns with force: the country bought more than 10 million doses

In the last few hours, the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruíz, announced that the country 10.8 million doses of the Moderna vaccine will arrivefollowing a bilateral agreement between the Government and the pharmaceutical company.

Under the terms of the agreement, Moderna expects to deliver 1 million doses in the first quarter of 2022, 6 million doses in the second quarter and 3.8 million doses in the third quarter of the year.”, explained the senior official.

According to the minister, vaccines continue to be the best tool to treat, prevent and put stop the pandemic. “These vaccines will allow us to move forward and satisfactorily close this first stage of the National Vaccination Plan, as well as continue to guarantee supply for the second semester,” he assured.

Román Saglio, Moderna’s senior director of commercial alliances in Latin America, said he is very grateful for the agreement and trust in technology of the company.

The agreement comes almost a year after Moderna signed the first alliance to carry vaccines to a Latin American countrywhich was Colombia.

Colombia is one of the countries with the most diversified portfolio of vaccines, according to the Minister of Health. “To date, we have received 13,514,440 doses from Moderna: 10,014,440 through a bilateral agreement and 3,500,000 through a donation from the United States Government.Ruiz explained.

Of the 105.2 million vaccines acquired by the National Government, 67 million have been through bilateral agreements, 20 million by Covax and 17 million by donations. In turn, 44.4% are from the mRNA platform, according to the official.

To date, the country has applied 73,325,312 doses of biologicals against covid-19. Of these, 34,752,460 are first doses and 26,336,661 second. The complete schematics, for now, are 32,248,330.

Along with this, 6,324,522 booster doses have been applied.
