As of this Wednesday, the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) began inspections of private job placement agencies, because in general, those who carry out this task must have a license.
The national director of Employment of Mitradel, Alfredo Mitre, explained that the main objective of these inspections is to promote ethical recruitment because through compliance with labor standards and the regulations that exist for private agencies, “we are promoting human rights and respect for these labor standards”.
He added that last year they held an awareness day with almost all the companies that offer these services to present them with the regulations that they must comply with, so now the on-site verification of said regulations is being carried out.
Miter said that, up to now, they have approximately 60 companies that have a valid license to carry out intermediation work. “Publishing job ads is regulated and they have to comply with the rules,” he said.
“Before giving their data, people must verify that the company also has a place and their information must be published on its website,” he said.
On the other hand, the employment director pointed out that there are not many registered cases of Panamanians who have been victims of this type of fraudulent actions in other countries, but they do have a notion of foreigners who have been deceived in Panama.
“There are several cases of foreigners who have arrived in the country deceived by a fraudulent job offer, and it goes beyond an institutional campaign, that they say I am not going to hire anyone for less than what is established by the norm,” he remarked.
This inspection began this Wednesday in the district of San Francisco.
