Minsa: The contagion curve of covid-19 falls to 40 cases a day

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported in its weekly report that the number of positive cases of covid-19, identified in the week from October 26 to November 2, amounts to 277. This is the lowest figure officially reported since last June and marks a downward trend in the number of cases.

According to statistics, now the daily average of cases identified by the Minsa is 40, less than half of the 100 they identified at the end of last September. However, this average is above the number of cases per day registered by the Minsa from the end of November 2020 to March 2021.

“People who have been under responsible and careful monitoring for covid-19 have frequently had associated conditions such as: high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, obesity, heart disease, immunodeficiency syndrome, chronic kidney failure, history of stroke, pulmonary tuberculosis and chronic lung diseases ”, assures the Minsa in its brief report.

1.22% fatality

Likewise, they report that in the week analyzed there was only one death due to covid-19, a trend they have been holding for 56 consecutive weeks, even though it is statistically unlikely. Well, there was not even an increase in deaths in parallel to the upturn in infections registered between August and last September.

According to the reports published weekly by the Minsa, the number of deaths from this cause that occurred since March 26, 2021, when the first death was reported, until this November 2, is 209. This figure is 28 times lower to that registered by the independent monitoring of the Citizen Observatory.

In turn, it indicates that the lethality (deaths in relation to infections) of the covid-19 in Nicaragua is only 1.22%; the lowest percentage on record in the entire pandemic. Lower even than the fatality reported globally, which is 2%.

However, the Minsa implicitly admits that there were deaths in patients with covid-19, but that they were not included in the official count because they were classified as deaths due to diabetes, pulmonary thromboembolism, acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive crisis and bacterial pneumonias.

Five million deaths in the world

This week the global death toll from covid-19 exceeded five million people. However, many health experts think that the actual number could be much higher, the United Nations reported.

“Five million deaths should be a clear reminder that we cannot lower our guard. (…) It’s about a ruthless virus that does not respect borders”Said Antonio Guterrez, Secretary General of the United Nations on Monday.

A published report in May of this year for the World Health Organization points out that the real number of deaths from coronavirus is two or three times higher than the official figure, according to data from the World Health Statistics.

Faced with these deaths, the secretary warned that it would be a mistake to think that the pandemic has been overcome, so he called to stay alert now combine vaccines with surveillance now that restrictions are being lifted in many places and people are beginning to move more freely.
