On the occasion of celebrating the World Day of energy efficiencythe Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) made this Friday Energy Efficiency Dialogue 2022during which four specialized talks were given and Minister Antonio Almonte warned about the challenges of the sector.
The activity, organized by the Vice Ministry of Energy Saving and Efficiencychaired by the engineer Alfonso Rodríguez, was carried out in the Renewable Energy Theme Parklocated in Juan Bosch City, in Santo Domingo East.
the minister of Energy and Mines expressed that both the covid-19 pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine They have highlighted the challenges facing the energy sector, mainly due to the scarcity and price of fuels on the international market.
He indicated that the efficient, prudent and rational use of energy in Dominican Republic and pointed out the importance of creating citizen awareness about the techniques that other countries have used regarding the saving and efficient use of energy.

¨We must quickly launch the promotion and encouragement from a train of public policies to raise awareness of efficient energy saving¨Minister Almonte concluded.
The deputy minister of Energy, Rafael Gomez, He said that ¨although we do not have a law that regulates the sector, we must support the change towards energy efficiency¨. He described the conversation as an informative and educational space.
On his side, the deputy minister Alfonso Rodriguez He stated that ¨energy efficiency is the solution to all the energy problems that currently exist¨.
He stressed that awareness of energy efficiency must be paramount because it will allow greater savings and the use of less polluting energy.
Edward Vera, executive director of the National Energy Commission (CNE), stressed the need for an Energy Efficiency Law due to the Dominican Republic’s dependence on more than 70% of fossil fuels.
The Dialogue featured four expert panelists on the subject of energy efficiency, who focused their speech on achieving sustainable development goals, affordable, safe and less polluting energy.
They also highlighted the work that must be done from within each citizen through awareness, training, dissemination and communication programs on the proper use of natural resources to reduce energy use.
Talks were also given at the Dialogue by Manuel Gonzalez, who developed the topic ¨Energy and Environment: Energy Management for Sustainable Development¨; while Endrina Becerra addressed the topic “Bioclimatic Architecture”.
Likewise, Iván Relova Delgado talked about the “Draft Air Cooling Strategy for the Dominican Republic” (ENRAA-RD). As Anny Michel Martínez, she dealt with ¨Energy Efficiency and Sustainability¨.
The meeting was attended by Freddy Lara, adviser to the minister on mining matters, as well as personalities from the energy and business fields and representatives of civil society.
