Minister Vallejo: «Governing with the 1980 Constitution imposes limitations on you»

The Minister Secretary General of the Government of Chile, Camila Vallejo, affirmed that there are certain limitations when governing with the current Constitution, in view of the Exit Plebiscite of the new Magna Carta that will be held on September 4.

The spokeswoman for La Moneda assured the newspaper of the Maule Region the press that “obviously, governing with the 1980 Constitution imposes limitations and obstacles that, effectively, hinder the in-depth fulfillment of the program that we have.”

Without delving further into the point, Vallejo said that, however, whatever the scenario, “we take it for granted that, sooner rather than later, this Constitution has to end.”

In any case, the Secretary of State maintained that, after the Plebiscite, “we are going to continue governing and pushing our program with the same conviction and strength, because it is something that we committed to the citizenry.”

Minister Vallejo defended the work carried out by President Gabriel Boric and the rest of the cabinet, alluding to the political, social and economic scenario that the new administration had to receive

“We had to govern in a process of important changes, inflation has had a very strong impact on us, we are facing a sustained rise in crime (…) The commitment is high and there has been an intense deployment in these five months, trying to solve things that hadn’t been solved in 20, 30 or 60 years,” he said.
