The minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Ricardo Lewandowski will ratify the agreement between the federal government and the State of Pernambuco for shared management of the territory of Fernando de Noronha. The information was confirmed on Tuesday night (21) by the minister’s advisory.
The document will be signed tomorrow (22nd), in Recife, during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit to the state.
Preservation
Under the new agreement, both parties committed to sharing the management of the island, preserving the environment and orderly use of the land.
The rules state that the expansion of the urban perimeter cannot occur and irregular constructions must be restrained and demolished if they are in disagreement with the archipelago’s environmental norms.
Fernando de Noronha’s management began to be questioned in the STF after the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro asked that the territory be declared Union domain for alleged non-compliance with the sharing agreement signed in 2002. The allegations have always been contested by the government of Pernambuco . Since 1988, the island belongs to the state government.
