Minister Lima admits that elections of magistrates "did not give good results"

The Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, admitted that the judicial elections they did not give “good” results to the country and warned that it does not guarantee independence of the judges who are appointed by the Judicial Council.

Criticism of justice administrators arises from opposition forces that see partiality and lack of transparency when judging cases where government authorities are implicated, while dissidents from the ruling party are persecuted and criminals are released.

“The Government does not want to change the operators because those operators have become the main political instrument of the MAS to judicially and politically destroy to the opposition as a whole and to cover up and protect themselves from all those serious cases linked to drug trafficking, ”said the deputy of the Citizen Community alliance Carlos Alarcón.

Within the framework of judicial reform in the country, the visit of the Special Rapporteur is expected from February 15 to 22 for the Independence of Judges and Lawyers of the United Nations, Diego García-Sayán, who will meet with various sectors of the nation.
