The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, condemned the “cowardly and cunning” attack against a carabinero and his family, registered yesterday Friday in the town of Tirúa, Biobío region.
The authority commented that he had a telephone conversation with Second Sergeant Mariano Riquelme, who was affected along with his two children and his mother-in-law while traveling in a vehicle along the route that connects Cañete with Tirúa.
“I just had a conversation with Sergeant Riquelme, he is much calmer, despite having had a very complex experience. You have to understand that he has been working in public order control for more than 15 years, in an area that is complex,” Delgado explained.
Likewise, the chief of staff maintained that “he told me, minister, I face very complex situations every day given my work, but something very different, is to be circulating with my family on a day of rest and see how to shoot to kill to my family”.
“When they ask us about the State of Exception, it’s not just figures, there are people behind, there are families behind each one of them, and that State of Exception is what has led us to detain 118 people,” Delgado argued.
He also assured that, as a Government, they will be “very attentive to the investigation, we have made contact with the regional prosecutor, he is calm, because the evolution of his little daughter, Mariana, is already much better.”
“Of course all our repudiation and we are going to arrive… of course and we are asking the Carabineros and the PDI that hopefully they can have an investigation very soon to find out who is behind this cowardly attack,” he remarked.
Delgado also confirmed that the extension of the State of Emergency Constitutional Exception that governs four provinces of the southern macrozone will be requested, at least once again.
“We are in the presence of a cowardly, cunning attack and an attack that, of course, reflects what is being experienced in the area (…) Of course we are going to continue requesting a State of Exception, because we have managed to arrest 118 people”, between criminal gangs, for drugs, wood theft and weapons seizures, stressed the Secretary of State.
