The Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Avilaresponded to the request for resignation by the Revolutionary Secondary Coordinator (CSR), an organization that has called various demonstrations of secondary school students.
Minister Ávila replied that “I am concerned about all the needs, at all stages of the (educational) trajectory, and to the extent that there is dialogue and respect regarding the entire conversation, we will find the solution,” says Radio Bío Bío. .
The CSR is made up of students from different educational establishments in the Metropolitan region, including emblematic ones such as the National Institute, the INBA, or the Liceo Carmela Carvajal.
“I am the minister not only of the emblematic high schools, of which I am concerned and have acted as a bridge and we have solutions for them, I am the minister of five million students in the country at all stages of the trajectories and of more than 300 thousand teachers,” said the head of Education.
“Many of the Government come from social movements, therefore, it shares some of those requirements,” added the Secretary of State, but pointed out that in order to advance it is necessary that “it always be done peacefully.”
The CSR also asks to comply with the “single secondary request”, which considers “minimum conditions to study”, contemplating improvements in the Junaeb menu, internet, infrastructure and free transportation. They also request Comprehensive Sex Education and “the creation of effective protocols against patriarchal violence,” says the publication on Instagram.
At another point, they ask for “paid and insured practices and tools for professional technical high schools”; end to the PAES and universal access to all levels of education, and repeal of the Safe Classroom Law.
Although the mobilizations of secondary students have been registered throughout the year, these have intensified after the plebiscite of September 4, where the Rejection of the proposal for a new Constitution triumphed. The protests have included traffic cuts and ticket evasion in the Santiago Metro. There have also been burns to public transport.
