The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) reported that this Monday the vast majority of schools in the eastern region will start teaching, including all educational centers in Samaná.
The Directorate of Communications of the Minerd said that the repair work on campuses affected by Hurricane Fiona continues uninterrupted, highlighting the support provided by the different communities in the work being carried out.
In this regard, he reported that in Regional 12 of Higüey, 175 schools will open and 142 will be incorporated as they are repaired, work that is done as quickly as possible.
Esteban Castillo, director of Regional 12, reported that in the province of La Altagracia District 12-01 70 schools will be teaching and 75 will not open, while on 12-02 classes will start 20 and 28 will not.

Likewise, in District 12-03 69 of El Seibo 69 schools will open their doors and 16 will not due to the repairs they are undergoingwhile 16 centers will teach in District 12-04, but another 23 will be incorporated in the future.
Castle said that in The Altagracia currently there are no schools occupied with refugees, but, nevertheless, in the Gerardo Jansen high school military units remain in charge of the custody of the city. However, he assured, classes will start on Monday at said high school.
While Isidro Santana, director of Regional 05 of San Pedro de Macorís, said that this Monday of 489 public centers, 476 will open their doors.
He explained that the remaining 13 that will not start teaching are undergoing repairs, in some cases due to damage caused by tropical storm Fiona and in others because they were already undergoing extensive renovations.
The director of the regional 05 assured that in the schools of those demarcations there are no longer refugees.
On his side, the director of Regional 14 of Nagua informed that this Monday all the schools of Samaná will begin the school year, for which they will celebrate an act with the presence of the main authorities of the province.
