The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (minerd) received from the Dominican Academy of Language and the Guzmán Ariza Foundation the donation of 1,250 copies of the Dominican Spanish Dictionary to be distributed in the same number of educational centers.
The Minister of Education, angel hernandezthanked the delivery, while saying that everyone who can do something for the school is welcome, and that for the educational centers of the country it is important to have a Dominican Spanish Dictionary “because it is what society needs.”
“It is an invaluable contribution of great value, the fact of putting this dictionary in the hands of our students, teachers and parents; That is why I want to congratulate the Academy that was behind this whole project and the Guzmán Ariza Foundation.”, expressed the minister through a press release.
Hernández assured that the dictionaries will be distributed in schoolsand exposed to the academics the initiatives carried out by the minerd to strengthen teacher training in the field of language and the Spanish language teaching so that the country can have a good level of reading comprehension.
Bruno Rosariopresident of the language academythanked the minerd for inviting them to be part of the creation of textbooks, for what it means for Dominican education, since it is essential that there are good school textbooks, which, he considers, is the first step to raise the level of education.
In addition, Fabio Guzman Arizapresident of the Guzmán Ariza Foundation, which was in charge of creating the volumes, maintained that the mission of the dictionary is to disseminate this knowledge to the national student body so that they can know and “value what our vocabulary is, which is what defines us as a people and as a nation.”
In the act of delivery, they were present, by part of the minerdthe Vice Minister of Evaluation and Control of the Quality of Education, Oscar Amargós, and Leónidas Germán, General Director of Curriculum, while Rubén García, María José Rincón, Rita Díaz and Ruth Ruiz also participated in the Academy.

It is the first academic dictionary of the Dominican Republic that records the words and meanings of the usual vocabulary in Dominican Spanish that do not have a common use in Spanish.
With this dictionary, a work that includes the lexicon of Dominican Spanish of the twentieth century and of the XXI to this day, the current and frequent in the present and also the disappeared or in the process of disappearing for generational reasons or changes in the culture or in the way of life of Dominican society.
