Minerd concludes teacher training in the English program

The Vice Ministry of Technical and Pedagogical Services of the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) concluded this Tuesday the training of 500 teachers, district and regional technicians on the platform of the program “English for a Better Life”, which will be implemented in 144 schools during the 2024-2025 school year, which begins on August 26.

The training activity was carried out with the aim of providing teachers with the linguistic competences and digital skills for the use of the Education First, EF, platform, which will allow students to learn English easily and quickly.

During the closing ceremony of the training sessions, which took place in the Aula Magna of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Ancell Scheker, Vice Minister of Technical and Pedagogical Services, highlighted the importance of learning English for students, and for their comprehensive development, and to increase their employment and study opportunities.

She said that Education First is a great support for students to receive their classes and work on all communication skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.

“You are the ones who create the possibility of making a difference in the lives of your high school students. We have this challenge as a country to raise the level of English proficiency and to develop this curricular area, which is planned from primary to secondary school,” Scheker told the teachers.

He pointed out that within the plan to strengthen training for those who teach English, there are different actions such as diplomas, which are carried out through the National Institute for Teacher Training and Capacity Building (Inafocam), and programs in conjunction with the United States Embassy and different universities.
