Mineduc: 69% of CAE debtors have incomes of less than $750,000

The Ministry of Education (Mineduc) released this Tuesday the first report characterizing the debtors of the Credit with State Guarantee (CAE). The document details, among other characteristics, the income level of that population.

The report, prepared by the Ministry of Education and with cross-information from the Income Commission and the Internal Revenue Service (SII), revealed that 69% of CAE debtors in the payment stage -out of a universe of 670,000 people- have a salary less than $750 thousand pesos. That percentage is equivalent to 485 thousand people.

Meanwhile, 81% have incomes of less than $1 million and 38% of debtors have average earnings of less than $250,000. In turn, 8% have incomes of more than $1.5 million and only 2% have more than $2.5 million.

Regarding distinction by gender, of 386,595 women, 72% earn less than $750 thousand monthly on average. Meanwhile, of the 282,297 men, 66% earn less than 750 thousand.

“The information provided by the Internal Revenue Service is the most accurate, it is the most reliable (…) It is the first time that in the design and analysis of the Credit System with State Guarantee, information from SII is crossed and we believe that this is a commitment and a sign of the seriousness with which we, by mandate of the citizens, are advancing”, indicated the undersecretary of Higher Education, Veronica Figueroa.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Avilamaintained that “this first report tells us that most of them are not millionaires, which is how it has been tried many times. As if the debtors had very high incomes and almost by will they did not want to fulfill their responsibilities before the banks “.
