Millions demanded for phone number with triple 666 in China

The phone number 15666666666 went up for auction in China for a starting price of 13.6 million yuan (1.96 million dollars, 1.94 million euros), local media collect today.

The number, belonging to the China Unicom operator, will be available to bid from next October 10 on an auction platform of the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, reports the Netease portal.

The number also includes a balance for calls worth 380,000 yuan (54,900 dollars, 54,100 euros), not included in the auction price and that must be paid by the winner after the transaction.

Unlike in the West, where the number 666 has demonic connotations, in China it has a positive meaning.

In recent years, the use of “666” has become popular on social networks to express approval or admiration for its similar pronunciation with the word “cow”, which is used in a similar way.

The holder of 15666666666 will become the person with the most six phone number in the country.

Other phone numbers that include digits considered auspicious such as 8 or 9 are traditionally more expensive in the Asian country.
