Mijaín López in Cuba after receiving the Acno award

The multi-champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Mijaín López Núñez, was awarded for his remarkable performance in the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, during the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (Anoc, for its acronym in English).

The ceremony was held last Sunday in Crete, Greece, and a few hours ago the native of Pinar del Río arrived in the homeland. Upon his arrival at the José Martí International Airport, JIT interviewed him by telephone.

“The recognition was something special, a way to reward all the work that one has done throughout his sports career. Proud to have been awarded in the land of Olympism, where the modern Olympic games began, ”said the four-time king under the five rings.

«Happy to return to the homeland, happy to be with my people. Proud to be Cuban, worthy of this Revolution, and we are going to continue together with all Cubans worthy of this people, “he said.

In Crete, Mijaín received the award called Outstanding Athlete Performance, one of 15 awarded there by Acno.

The Assembly was also attended by the president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Roberto Leon Richards, and the secretary general of that entity, Ruperto Herrera.
