Santo Domingo.-The former foreign minister of the Republic Miguel Vargas Maldonado said that “without food, employment, light and without security, this country is a time bomb.”
Vargas affirmed that the lack of jobs, crime and the immigration crisis threaten the economic, political and social stability of our country.
“The crisis of insecurity that the nation is suffering, in addition to disturbing the peace and upsetting the joy that characterizes Dominicans, highlights the inability of the current administration to confront crime in its different manifestations,” he added.
Vargas added that “instead of looking for fever in the sheets, the government should focus its efforts on stopping the rise of hit men and the new form of express kidnapping that seriously affects the Dominican middle class.”
“Only with a true citizen security strategy, which implies a greater investment in improving the working conditions of the National Police, the Public Ministry and the Judiciary, with the participation of all sectors of the country in its implementation, will we be able to get out of this crisis,” he concluded.
