Miguel Mora demands to see his son, he has been on a hunger strike for 50 days

Political prisoner Miguel Mora Barberena has been on a hunger strike for 50 days from the cells of the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as The Chipotea center where he is subjected to various cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, as reported by human rights organizations and relatives of the conscientious hostages.

The peaceful action of the presidential candidate is aimed at the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo allowing him to see his son Miguel Mora, 21, who suffers from a motor disability and who was recently denied the right to have his identity card.

On the ninth visit —on Saturday, July 23— that his wife Verónica Chávez made to the owner of the confiscated television channel 100% Noticias, she reported that her husband told her that he had been abstaining from solid food for a month. And today, August 12, there are already 50 days on this hunger strike.

“50 days after my husband Miguel Mora is on a hunger strike, his family members are extremely concerned because Miguel’s life is in danger. We have no more information than what we already knew, that he was going to be on that hunger strike as long as he was not allowed the visit of our little boy Miguelito Mora, a 21-year-old young man, but because of his disability he is like a child to us. », Chavez said by telephone to Article 66.

Miguel should be in his house with his son, getting him ahead. Miguelito needs it, he is a child with a disability. He is unjustly imprisoned. As long as he is not released, he should be allowed the right to see his son, since he has not seen him for a year and two months, “he added.

According to a specialist consulted by Article 66, the forced separation of Mora from his family could cause permanent damage that will affect the political prisoner and his family. The expert explained that there are emotional situations that “no matter how many therapies the person receives or a lot of emotional support from the family, if the stressor element is not removed, that is, if the person is subjected to the same stress factor, this can cause damage. permanent psychic in mental health”.

Mora was sentenced by the Second Judge of the Criminal Trial District of Managua, Nadia Camila Tardencilla, to 13 years in prison, allegedly for conspiring “to undermine national integrity.” The journalist was subjected to attacks, cyber harassment by supporters of the regime and the equipment, frequency and facilities of Canal 100% Noticias were confiscated. Since the end of 2018, he was imprisoned for the first time for six months in the Jorge Navarro National Penitentiary System, in Tipitapa.
