Miguel Díaz-Canel suggests in a tweet the victory of the yes in the referendum of the Family Code

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has suggested through Twitter the victory of the ‘yes’ in the referendum of the Family Code held this Sunday in Cuba. Although officially there are no preliminary or final participation data offered by the National Electoral Council (CEN), the president’s message heralds the approval of the text.

“Hello Cuba . With joy at the first results of the referendum in favor of #CodigoYes we enter a challenging week with the hurricane Ian Very close. Maximum protection of human lives and material resources. Let nothing fail. We will win,” the leader wrote.

Díaz-Canel links to the most recent information offered in the official press, which includes the participation data at 5 in the afternoon, one hour before the closing of the polling stations and two hours with respect to the closing of the polls in eight provinces. in which Ian’s rains led to the voting being prolonged: Havana, Ciego de Ávila, Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Holguín and Isla de la Juventud completely and some constituencies in Matanzas and Camagüey.

Until that moment, 5,806,778 voters had voted out of the 8,425,147 registered, 68.91% of the total and twelve points less than in the 2019 Constitution referendum at the same time. The authorities partially attributed the drop in participation to the climate, although the demobilization of the vote had different factors.
