The Executive Branch resolved to submit a bill to Parliament to extend the partial unemployment insurance for the last time. The measure will be active until September 30, 2022.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) understands that due to the impact that the pandemic had last season, there are sectors of activity that have not yet fully reactivated, so “it is good” to maintain the measure.
“This instrument —which is exceptional— has been extended throughout the entire health emergency and, although there is no health emergency now, there is an impact carryover in several of the activity sectors that have used this instrument” said the Minister of Labor, Pablo Mieres. In addition, he explained that the ministry received requests for extensions from different sectors.
According to Minister Mieres, the measure will apply to the same sectors of activity that were currently covered by the active partial unemployment insurance, which it encompassed 9,100 people.
As reported by the MTSS in the extension that took place in March of this year, the benefit includes activities such as processing and preservation of food, beverages and tobacco; general trade; hotels, restaurants and bars; transportation and storage; teaching services; cultural, entertainment and communication services; professional services, specialized technicians and those not included in other groups; and union, social and sports entities.
