The foreign minister recalled that, at the proposal of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a group of 12 representatives was formed, four from the T-MEC partner house, whose responsibility will be to accelerate the pace so that import substitution takes place.
“It is an enormous job that we have ahead of us, but having the will and the instruction, we have to carry it out,” said Ebrard.
Regarding the import substitution committee, López Obrador explained that he appointed Alfonso Romo, external adviser to his government, because “people are needed who are trustworthy, and who help.”
In addition to import substitution, the group of 12 representatives will also work on planning to strengthen productive activities in the region, producing what is consumed in North America.
“Not only that, but also to project the development and integration, with respect to the sovereignty of the countries, of the entire American continent; not turn our backs on Latin America and the Caribbean”, stressed López Obrador.
The president pointed out that there is already a flow of foreign investment in the three North American countries. For example, he highlighted that BMW decided to set up its plant in Mexico, with an investment of 800 million euros.
