The Immigration authorities will request the consular support of Havana to return to the Island a 15-year-old minor detained last Friday near the center of Cancun, Quintana Roo (Mexico), along with nine other Cubans and two coyotes who were transporting them in a vehicle, confirms to 14ymedio the municipal police officer Melquiades Arozamena.
The Group Specialized in Attention to Family and Gender Violence “identified two minors by their initials, BDLB, 8 years old, who was accompanied by his family, and MUCS (15), who said he was traveling alone,” explains the officer. “That version was strange, but it was the first he gave when asked and it is still being verified.”
Arozamena insists on his doubt about the minor’s version. “The Cuban nuclei always do it accompanied. It will be up to the prosecution to find out more about the case of the initial boy and to Immigration to define her immediate condition.”
Jesús Willyans FG, 47, Yennisei BG (33), Leo Van S. Ch. (28), Claudia PB (22), Grelia SR (26), Doris Nelvi PR (22), César Luis BP (22) and Jose Adolfo MV (21) were transferred in a truck by two coyotes “Fran BA, originally from the state of Veracruz, and Willyams CM, from Cancun, to the Ciudad Natura subdivision,” says Arozamena.
When they were presented to the authorities, Fran and Willyams were accused of kidnapping and migrant trafficking. During the statements, those involved “assured that they would lead the Cubans to a house and leave them there,” the officer said.
The Ciudad Natura subdivision, to which they would take the Cubans, is located 30 minutes from the Cancun International Airport. “The members of the group were informed that having entered the country irregularly, they have 20 days to regularize their stay,” he tells 14ymedio an immigration agent.
The arrival of Cubans in Mexico is increasing. Between January and April 13, Migration reported the arrest of 15,907 citizens of the Island. And the state of Quintana Roo is a route of entry and stories. Last March, the computer teacher Raidel and the fishermen Osmel and Rosniel, all Cubanarrived on a raft to Isla Mujeres and after being detained, they requested refuge.
Migration has images of the arrival of seven rafters on Friday, April 15, to Isla Mujeres, on the part of “the beach near the Fovissste housing unit, in the La Gloria neighborhood,” says the agent. “As soon as they landed, these Cubans hurriedly fled in different directions.”
Authorities detained two of the rafters, but the rest have yet to be located. “Everything was complicated by Holy Week and the arrival and departure of tourists. They could well have already left the state.”
Between October and December 2021, 29 rafters who arrived at Isla Mujeres were detained. Of 60 Cubans detained in that same year, Migration deported 45 and 15 received legal advice to obtain refuge.
