Mexico: the new “patron” of Castroism

México, Cuba, médicos, misiones

MIAMI, United States. – The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, continues to exceed the norm of favors to the Cuban regime. Despite the harsh criticism he has received for supporting a highly lucrative activity for the Cuban dictatorship, considered by various organizations as “modern slavery”, the politician authorized the hiring, since last October 12, of foreign medical specialists to cover, for one year, 749 vacancies in 54 hospitals.

The director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) announced that the specialists who decide to work on Aztec soil will have a salary of 53,569 pesos (2,674 USD), plus benefits. Although doctors from anywhere in the world, including Mexicans, can participate, most of the applicants are Cubans and Venezuelans.

Although it is not specified if the Cuban doctors will be hired through the calls “medical missions”or they will also be able to apply specialists who have revalidated their professional title, there is no doubt that this is a great opportunity for the regime in Havana to continue feeding its coffers with fresh dollars that, judging by the catastrophic situation of the majority of Cuban hospitals and clinics will not be invested in the island’s health system.

Likewise, it is noteworthy that Venezuela, where so many Antillean doctors have supposedly been sent to cover the shortage of health personnel and specialists, has many health professionals eager to work in Mexico. Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship loses medical personnel for reasons very similar to those that have caused the stampede of thousands of Cuban doctors: lack of individual freedoms, low wages, overexploitation and a crisis that does not end.

For years the “medical missions”, which are nothing more than a euphemism to cover up the business of hiring health professionals, have been draining the island’s health institutions. A large number of specialists and technicians have been sent to ” fulfill mission” amid the collapse of the public health system. If we add to them those who have left the sector to emigrate, or seek work in better-paid areas, the citizen complaints about the precariousness of medical services and the chronic shortage of personnel to care for an aging and sick population are not surprising. .

Despite this reality that, very soon, will end in disaster, the regime of Miguel Díaz-Canel makes the few resources that Cuba has left available to the complicit government, such as that of López Obrador, so that the dollars are not lacking that allow political control and repression within the Island.
