How many young people are there in Mexico?
Strictly speaking, the United Nations Organization considers that you are young only when you are between 10 and 24 years old. But the World Health Organization suggests that youth ranges from 10 to 30 years.
However, when we talk about youth, we also talk about productive age and, in this sense, a person can be considered to be in the middle of their working life when they are close to 34 years old.
In this sense, there are different criteria to define how many young people there are in Mexico.
If the first is taken into account, the country has 32.1 million inhabitants between the ages of 10 and 24, which is equivalent to 25.6% of the total population.
If the criterion is extended and those who are between 10 and 34 years old are considered young, it can be said that 4 out of 10 people in Mexico are in full youth. And, in fact, it can be said, with the Inegi data, that more than 57% of people are under 34 years of age in Mexico.
With these data, it is obviously still possible to affirm that Mexico is a predominantly young country.
How many older adults are there in Mexico?
There are currently 15.14 million older adults in the countryof which some 18,925 people are over 100 years old, according to the 2020 National Population and Housing Census, from INEGI.
Is Mexico getting old?
There is evidence that the country is aging, because while 63.7% of the Mexican population was under 34 years of age in 2010, this proportion fell to 57% for the 2020 Inegi Population and Housing Census.
