Mexican Politicians Express Solidarity Before Coahuila Mine Collapse

The first reports from the state authorities detail that the miners were trapped in one of the “pits” in which they worked.

The accident occurred in the coal mine located in the “Las Agujitas” community, and it was one of the miners who managed to get out and requested help from the Civil Protection elements.

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) reported tonight that the mine in which the accident occurred is registered as a pattern, with no debt in payment of fees.

So far four people who managed to get out are in care with minor injuries at the General Hospital of the Zone number 24 of Nueva Rosita.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, requested that the head of federal Civil Protection, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, go to the entity to coordinate the rescue actions of the miners.

The National Guard reported that its elements cordoned off the area to prevent residents from entering the affected area and thus preserve its integrity.

“Likewise, they facilitate access to emergency teams, such as firefighters and civil protection personnel, in charge of clearing the flooded area to start rescue work,” he added.
