Mexican company will organize an open water swimming contest in Varadero

The Mexican company Gran Retto promotes the first edition of a tournament of swimming of open waters in the famous spa of Varaderofrom the western Cuban province of killings.

The event will take place on September 17 and 18, and in it will be competed in several sections with selected distances, according to a statement from the organizing entity, reviewed by the agency Latin Press (PL).

Open Water Gran Retto Cuba has the support of the Ministry of Tourism de la Isla, Taíno Tours and the company Cubadeportes SA, together with other collaborators, adds the press report.

The athletes will be divided by age range and one category will include people with disabilities, according to data provided by the Mexican company.

According to the disclosed program, on Saturday the 17th the distances of 750 meters and 1.5 kilometers will be covered, while on Sunday the 18th the five and 10 kilometers will be swum.

Official information specifies that registration closes on September 9 or until capacity is exhausted, and the travel and participation packages available at the Taíno Tours travel agency include a round trip flight from Havana to Cancun, through the airline Long live Aerobus.

The organizers point out that the international participants in the event will be guaranteed arrival and departure transfers to the main sun and beach destination in Cuba, as well as four nights of accommodation under the All Inclusive regime in hotels such as Sol Palmeras, Meliá Varadero, Grand Memories Varadero, Starfish Varadero and Royalton Hicacos.

The empowerment of the different market segments is one of the current focuses of the sightseeing on the Island, with the aim of receiving 2.5 million visitors this year, and thus directing the recovery of a sector seriously hit by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic crisis.

According to official figures, tourism is the second sector that contributes the most to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and occupies a similar position among those that generate the highest foreign exchange earnings.
