Mexican authorities detain three Nicaraguan migrants

The National Migration Institute (INM) of the Mexican Ministry of the Interior reported the arrest of 270 migrants of different nationalities, including Nicaraguans. The entity indicated that the people were in a hotel in the municipality of Juan Rodríguez Clara, Veracruz, in that Aztec country.

“Federal Migration Agents (AFM), in coordination with elements of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard (GN), the Secretary of Public Security of the State of Veracruz, Civil Protection and municipal police, made a visit of verification in a hotel located in the Benito Juárez neighborhood,” the INM said in a statement.

Of the total number of migrants detained, the INM detailed that 205 came from Guatemala, 33 from El Salvador, 28 from Honduras, three from Nicaragua and one person from Ecuador.

“Of the 270 foreigners who could not prove their regular stay in the country, 45 are minors (30 men and 15 women) and 225 are adults (182 men and 43 women),” he added.

The INM added that minors and those who make up family nuclei will remain under the tutelage of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) “for their custody and protection.” In the case of adults, they were transferred to the entity’s migration station to continue with their administrative migration process.

“The INM endorses its commitment to safe, orderly and regular migration in order to prevent foreigners who transit irregularly from putting their lives and physical integrity at risk,” he concluded.

For his part, this Tuesday Joe Biden, president of the United States, assured that “it is not rational” to deport migrants from Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, where these totalitarian regimes repress citizens. In fact, the US president indicated that he is working with Mexico to stop the flow of these arrivals.

“Now I am attentive to Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua. The possibility of sending them back to those countries is not rational,” said the Democratic leader, who added: “We are working with Mexico and other countries to see if we can stop the (migratory) flow.”

The president assured the press at the White House that the situation on the border is “totally different” from what it was in the previous administration of Donald Trump (2017-2021), since “fewer migrants arrive from Central America and Mexico.”
