The director of the Metropolitan Transportation and Transit Authority (AMTT), Nelson Torcate, asserted that in Barquisimeto, Lara state, it has been proven that the collectors are the source of most of the conflicts around the provision of the transportation service
Due to the continuous reports of mistreatment and even violence against passengers in transport units, carried out mostly by the so-called “collectors”, the director of the Metropolitan Transportation and Transit Authority (AMTT), Nelson Torcate, urged the presidents of routes, owners and carriers, to progressively eliminate this figure.
Torcate declared that it has been proven that the collectors are the source of most of the conflicts around the provision of this service in Barquisimeto, both against the users and between them. The official argued that these people create disorder in traffic, because, he added, it is a public fact that it is the collector who gives indications of the stops that the driver must make, among other actions.
“Eliminating the collectors would be taking an important step towards the normalization of the transportation system and the provision of a dignified service with respect for passengers and the system itself,” said Torcate.

Case of collectors in Valle Dorado
He added that the AMTT congratulates and militantly accompanies the action taken by the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (CICPC), in the opening of the criminal investigation against the collectors who were involved in scenes of disturbance of public order and aggression against passengers in Valle Dorado, adding that also from this instance, administrative procedures were initiated for the routes, units, drivers and owners of buses involved in the violent confrontation made public in recent days.
“We must create a sufficiently strong precedent so that situations like these do not continue to repeat themselves, from the AMTT we are accompanying the criminal investigations, but we have also initiated administrative sanctioning procedures against owners, carriers and routes involved in this reprehensible event,” concluded the director. of the AMTT.
